In this series, we’ve explored the unhealthy ways people relate to God: Life Under God (living in fear of His judgment), Life Over God (living as if we don’t need Him), and Life From God (treating Him as a divine vending machine), and Life For God (serving Him to earn His love). Each of these mindsets distorts the true nature of God and His desire for a relationship with us. Now, we turn to the heart of the matter: Life With God. This is the way God always intended us to live—not under Him, over Him, from Him, or for Him, but with Him. In this final post, I will dive into what living in a relationship with God means, how it transforms us, and why it’s the only way to experience true life.
The Goal of Life Is God.
The ultimate goal of life is not rules, principles, blessings, or even service—it’s God Himself. He created us to be in a relationship with Him, to walk with Him, and to know Him intimately. This is the essence of Life With God.
1. The goal of life is God!
Everything in creation points to Him. He is the source of life, love, and purpose. When we make Him the center of our lives, everything else falls into place.
2. He has talked to all of us, and we can talk to Him.
God is not distant or silent. He speaks to us through His Word, His Spirit, and the beauty of His creation. And we can talk to Him through prayer, knowing He listens and cares.
3. If we allow Him, God will be with us at all times.
God’s presence is not limited to a church building or a quiet time of prayer. He is with us in every moment, guiding, comforting, and empowering us.
4. God has a specific plan to restore His creation.
His plan to restore His creation was not to send a list of rules and rituals to follow (Life Under), nor was it the replacement with merely human endeavors (Life Over). He did not send a genie to grant us our desires (Life From), nor is it dependent on anything we do (Life For). Instead, God Himself came to be with us—to walk with us again. In Jesus, God entered our broken world to restore what was lost and to bring us back into a relationship with Him.
5. If people come to know who God truly is, they will desire Him.
Our vision of God must be corrected by listening to what God says about Himself. When we see Him as He truly is—loving, gracious, and holy—we can’t help but want to be near Him.
The Only Way to Life With God.
Life With God is not something we can achieve on our own. It’s a gift made possible through Jesus Christ. There are several ways it happens:
1. The Only Way to Have This Type of Life With God Is to Put Your Faith in Jesus.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). He is the bridge between us and God, the only one who can restore our broken relationship with the Father.
John 6:36 reminds us, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” Faith in Jesus is the doorway to Life With God.
2. The Importance of the Cross
The cross is central to Life With God. As 1 Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” The cross is God’s way of offering a sacrifice for our sins. It’s where Jesus took the punishment we deserved so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God.
God’s Original Plan.
God’s plan from the beginning was to be with us. This is how He accomplished it through Jesus:
1. Jesus came to earth in a miraculous way—a qualification of being our Messiah (Savior).
His birth was foretold by prophets and marked by divine intervention.
2. He lived a sinless life—a requirement of being our Messiah (Savior).
Only a perfect sacrifice could pay for our sins.
3. He died in the way the prophets predicted and then physically rose from the dead.
His resurrection proves His victory over sin and death.
4. He was seen by many different people after He died and rose again. Plus, there is an empty tomb where His body had been laid.
The historical evidence of Jesus’ resurrection is undeniable.
5. Faith in God’s plan is the only way we can experience a life with God.
It’s not about what we do but about trusting what Jesus has done for us.
Being With God Means a Life of Faith, Hope, and Love.
When we live with God, our lives are transformed. We experience faith, hope, and love in ways we never could on our own.
1. Living with God in the center of my life gives me hope.
We rely on God for peace and our future.
We do not worry about things we cannot control.
2. Love for God means He will be in the center of our life.
Because He loves all people, we love others too.
Love like this removes our fears. As Ephesians 1:3-5 reminds us, God has loved us before we were born.
3. I know I am safe in God, no matter what happens around me.
The world is a mess. People are greedy, cheat each other, and fight often. But Jesus said, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Examples of Life With God.
1. Psalm 23 – “I will not fear…”
The psalmist describes the peace and security that come from walking with God, even in the darkest valleys.
2. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 – The supremacy of love.
The writer dismisses controlling God through requests (Life From God), thinking we know better (Life Over God), rituals (Life Under God), and even religious activity (Life For God). Love is what matters most.
Without love, even the greatest gifts and sacrifices are meaningless.
Conclusion: Union With God Through Faith.
Being united with God is not found in a religion but in God Himself. It’s not about rules, principles, blessings, or service—it’s about a relationship. Here’s how we can live this out:
1. Union with God is through faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.
If a person does not believe God forgives sin through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, they are not with God.
2. Next steps:
We represent a picture of Jesus to everyone we meet. Let’s make it a good picture.
It matters how we act, both in private and public.
We live with faith, hope, and love.
We allow God to take away all our fears.
Final Though.
Life With God is not a burden but a joy. It’s not about earning His love but receiving it. It’s not about striving but resting in His presence. When we live with God, we discover the life we were always meant to live—a life of faith, hope, and love. Let’s lay down the unhealthy ways we’ve related to Him and embrace the beauty of walking with Him every day.
